DEAR COMRADES, ALLIES, FRIENDS, AND ALL OTHER JUSTICE &
FREEDOM-LOVING PEOPLES OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE WORLD,
In the true spirit of human solidarity and internationalism against oppression, injustice and exploitation, I send all of you a warm embrace and greetings, with a clenched fist in the air, in this “Open Letter,” from within the belly of a Supermax control unit prison, and under the bootheel of gestapo fascism behind razor wire and enemy lines, from this concrete tomb of one of Amerika’s notorious gulag concentration camps for the poor, cages occupied by the poor, mainly by people of color who are disproportionately represented in the U.S. Prison Industrial Complex of Mass Incarceration for private, corporate profit, as sanctioned by the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that allows the immoral, criminal system of prison slavery that is destroying human lives, human dignity, by the same capitalist barbarians who rule the world and who are destroying the environment, ecological systems, and the wildlife of Planet Earth, for corporate, militarist profiteering.
The rise of fascism across U.S. cities, society and inside Amerika’s prison houses has moved me to intensify my revolutionary advocacy work and reach outside these prison walls to persons and organizations like you, to stir the senses, to encourage those of you seriously concerned with our social and human condition as an oppressed class, and to step up and organize ourselves into the united, dynamic, creative social forces of resistance that we can, and must, build, in order to take control of our lives, our communities, and our destiny as Justice & Freedom-Loving must work conscientiously to organize ourselves and fight back and replace this racist, rotten, immoral, repressive and imperialist political socioeconomic system of wage-theft capitalism and imperialism that is destroying human lives, human dignity and innocent civilians, and other abuses by authorities, by armed thugs of the state calling themselves “police,” is widespread in all U.S. communities of color, from New York to California and in between. The police murders of Michael Brown, 12-year old Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, Larry Jackson, and many other state-sponsored terrorist crimes against the innocent by armed thugs wearing badges, protected by racist courts, are not isolated incidents. It is a systemic pattern and culture of the core evils of this capitalist class socioeconomic system that is inherently racist to the core that must brutalize, coerce, control and exploit the working class in order to survive. This “Monster of Frankenstein” of this “free enterprise capitalist system” has entered its advanced form of repression called “fascism.” Fascism is a system of government marked by a centralized oligarchy, stringent socioeconomic controls, nationalist patriotic frenzy, and the use of flagrant state violence against the poor and other segments of society it must scapegoat and to blame for the ills of the economic glut between capital and labor. All (14) characteristics of fascism are beginning to re-appear under the current capitalist that is inevitable under wage-theft slavery and the current “glut between capital and labor,” that even the newspapers of U.S. corporations have recognized in an article entitled, “Glut of Capital and Labor Challenges Policy Makers” The Wall Street Journal, 24 April, 2015, by Josh Zumbrun, and Carolyn Cut. Those characteristics are: (1) Powerful continuing nationalism, patriotic frenzy of the ultra-conservative extremism of the right-wing; (2) Disdain for human rights; (3) Identification of enemies, scapegoats as a unifying cause; (4) Supremacy of the U.S. military; (5) Rampant sexism; (6) Controlled mass media; (7) Obsession with national security; (8) Religion and government are intertwined; (9) Corporate power is protected; (10)Labor power is suppressed; (11) Disdain for intellectuals and the arts; (12) Obsession with crime and punishment; (13) Rampant cronyism and corruption, and (14) Fraudulent elections. See, “The Study of Fascist Regimes,” By Dr. Lawrence Britt; further, the racist-hate murders of the innocent black people during a “bible study” at the historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina by the racist extremist inspired by white supremacy and confederate slavery’s history of the south; the “rally” by flag-waving confederate white supremacists through a black neighborhood in Houston, are just the “tip of the iceberg” of what is to come.
The political system, such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the National Security Agency, the FBI, ICE, DEA, have long been operating “secret intelligence programs” and have “secret black hole prisons” around the world, as part of this fascist strategy. These agencies are sowing seeds of distrust, misinformation, and to divide and conquer communities of color, turning neighbors against each other, and creating “suspicions” amongst citizens and nurturing a culture of “snitches” of civilians spying on each other and reporting to government. These “intelligence agencies” are illegally wire-tapping private telephone lines, and spying on cyberspace communications and collecting other private and personal data and records from citizens by government randomly, especially those “suspected” of terrorism or terrorist-related activities, all in the name of “national security” and their “war on terrorism,” which in all reality is “war on the poor,” their “war on ethnicity and social dissent and protest.” Under Obama’s 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, the government can now arrest and detain citizens, indefinitely, without any charges or trial. Government is using this law to “criminalize” political free speech, and any legitimate act of opposition or “disloyalty” to government policies, and spy on citizens and groups the government dislikes, under false pretexts and in the name of “national security” as done against New York Criminal Defense Attorney Lynne Stewart for her legitimate “legal defense” of the blind Muslim Cleric convicted in the first World Trade Center bombings in New York City, now imprisoned in the Supermax Control Unit Federal Prison at (ADX)-Florence, Colorado, a prison the subject of many denunciations by renowned international human rights tribunals and world human rights groups. For example, U.S. federal and state prisons have also become “militarized.” The majority of “prison guards” of the James V. Allred Prison Unit located near Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, are either “retired military” or on “leave” to be redeployed to war zones around the world. Their arrogant “patriotism” shows in their sheer racist brutalities and inhumanities they commit against the captive population, especially against prisoners of the Islamic Faith who possess a “prayer rug” or a Holy Koran, or are labelled “security threat group” prisoners due to their militant political ideas and are involved in protesting human rights violations in Texas prisons, much like this writer who has been solitary confinement going on years in August of this year, and is an internationally recognized political prisoner. See: www.thejerichomovement.com (List of Political Prisoners). The conditions here are not only inhumane, cruel and unusual punishment, but also constitute “torture” as condemned by the same federal judge that held them unconstitutional years ago in Ruiz v. Johnson, 37 F. Supp. 2d 855, at 940 (1999), original case at Ruiz v. Estelle, 500 F. Supp. 1265 (1980), in violation of international human rights laws and standards. The same “military police” responsible for torture, and other war crimes against detainees in military prisons in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, all learned their evil skills at “interrogation and torture” as “rookies” in state prisons. The hiring of former Texas prison director Lane McCotter, who ruled Texas prisons with an iron fist, by former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, as “prisons director” at Abu Ghraib is a classic example. The world was exposed to the atrocities committed by military police at Abu Ghraib in photos and videos released recording these inhumanities and degrading treatment. See: “Mistreatment of Prisoners Called Routine in U.S., “New York Times, May 8, 2004, (noting the hiring of McCotter by Ashcroft); See also, “Bush at War,” Bob Woodward, (2002).
Furthermore, the inter-connection between the government’s intelligence programs and “Prisons and Prisoners” is clearly shown in the history of the government’s “Red Squads” to spy on, monitor, infiltrate and destroy inside “prison movements” and assassinate prisoner-leadership militants who speak out against these inhumanities, who understand the true nature of prisons under capitalism, and link inside and outside struggles, as one. The recent 800 million dollars of taxpayer’s monies earmarked for the militarization of the borderlands signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott as the Republican’s “Border Security Bill” are the realities we face. Under the guise of “National Security” fueled by racist right wing political propaganda targeting Mexicans and the undocumented, it is not about immigration and all about corporate profiteering. Such monies will be used to saturate the borderlands with more iron fences, walls, surveillance cameras, high-tech drone aircraft, motion-sensors installed underground, militarized weaponry and patrol boats, hundreds of Rambo-like, trigger-happy cops, and another secret “gang intelligence” program headed by the Texas “DPS” to spy on Texas prisoners, activist groups and citizens, including environmental groups, under pretexts. U.S. imperialism has a known history of manufacturing “reasons“ for invading other countries, and declaring war against them. In Texas, these militarist moves are coming on the heels of allegations of political corruption and criminal securities fraud charges to be presented to a Texas Grand Jury by Special Prosecutors against Texas’ “Chief Law Enforcement Officer” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Republican, and his questionable cronyism hirings; and the separate allegations of “No-Bid Contracts” awarded to insurance and other companies as political cronyism favors to political donors from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, in his former position as Texas Attorney General, and the list goes on and on. The “arming” of alleged “Mexican Drug Cartels” under the federal government’s “Fast and Furious” clandestine program exposed by watch groups, was part and parcel of this overall fascist strategy to justify further social control, repression, militarization, and corporate profiteering by the U.S. Oligarchy. Earth First! The Journal of Ecological Resistance, Jun/July 2015, page 25, “Lawless Borderlands; Extensive Loss of Border Wild Lands to Immigration Madness,” by Karen Coulter, put it eloquently: “…[T]he militarization of the border isn’t so much about immigration as it is about social control, depressing of wages, and testing public tolerance for a police state as a pilot project in the south to be expanded to the north.” See also, The Mass Psychology of Fascism, by W. Reich.
The same capitalist corporate profiteers who have enriched themselves with building prison empires and the proliferation of “Supermax Control Unit Prisons” state and federal for our mass incarceration, are the same psychotic barbarians who are destroying the environment, ecological systems, wildlife and planet earth. We must stop this madness and wrestle political power and control away from them before it is too late. We must link our struggles against global capitalism, imperialist militarization, with our struggles to save the earth and all wildlife, its environment and ecological systems before the “world military super powers” initiate an apocalyptic nuclear war as a consequence of reviving global capitalist economies, and the re-division of world markets. We must not allow the establishment media to super-impose typical reformist “leaders” on our communities, for they are merely apologists of the capitalist system dispatched to mislead and to put out the “prairie fires” ignited across the nation, by oppressed people expressing their outrage and indignations against the brutalities, injustices, repression, and crimes against humanity of the capitalist police state against the poor. We must not do like the Ostrich and bury our heads in the sand, pretending these is not happening, nor seek other escapism from these realities that face us, and humanity. There is no way out of these nightmarish conditions but through revolutionary class struggle and resistance and to replace this illegitimate political system. History must be our teacher, our leader. Future generations will disown and condemn our generation if we fail to act now! Love, respect and give mutual aid support and solidarity to each other. Settle your quarrels and build a new and vibrant united front against fascism guided by, revolutionary theory, principles and practice, our social movements across the political, social spectrum must unite and take a leading, vanguard role in these inter-communal struggles, for building mass consciousness and mass mobilization of poor and oppressed communities, nationally and internationally. Seize the time! Build a united revolutionary front against fascism! Save the Earth! All power to the people! All power to the oppressed!
You are at liberty to share the contents of this communique with other persons and organizations in the United States and the world, in linking our community, worldwide and prison struggles against the same common enemy of the human species – global capitalism and imperialism!

POWER TO THE PEOPLE! POWER TO OUR FALLEN COMRADE BROTHER HUGO “YOGI BEAR” PINELL! We were saddened with the news that Yogi had been murdered last Wednesday, August 12, during an alleged “prison riot” at a Sacramento maximum security prison, after Yogi’s recent release from decades in solitary confinement in the California prison system. Our prison movement, as well as our outside social movement grieves at the loss of one of its most respected and beloved foot soldiers, within the belly of this fascist beast, in our mutual struggles against the common enemy of the human species --- the systems of colonialism, neo-colonialism, capitalism, imperialism and fascism. Although I never personally met Comrade Yogi, through his letters, writings, and actual deeds, as one of the SAN QUENTIN-SIX and close confidant of Comrade GEORGE JACKSON, also murdered by the State of California on AUGUST 21, 1971, during the takeover and “liberation” of the Adjustment Center’s control unit in San Quentin prison. I met Yogi in revolutionary spirit as we were then, and are now, continuing to build our national prison movement to educate, re-educate, the entire prisoner class that we are all victims of social injustice, of the racist, criminal injustice system, and to expose the true nature of prisons under capitalism.
Commitment to our human transformation through social awareness in struggle for the defense of our human dignity and our human rights, to build the unity of prisoners across all racial lines, as advocates for national and international revolution, will bring down against us the entire totalitarian power and brutalities of the fascist capitalist state, from prison guard beatings, to horrible food, parole denial, denial of adequate medical attention, false prison disciplinary and criminal charges, to retaliation for exercise of rights, to decades in isolation in solitary confinement’s torture supermax control unit prisons, to being set-up by prison guards for murder either by prison pigs themselves, and/or allowing other racist, violent criminal elements from within to commit these heinous criminal acts, so the prison system can then attempt to wash its bloody hands of its murderous deeds. The fact that hours after Comrade Yogi’s death, California prison guards and other racist, reactionary elements got on “social media” to rejoice at the murder of Yogi, vicious nature of the State and its stoogies.
These cowardly vipers, rats and snakes came all out of their viper holes to rejoice at the murder of Yogi, showing how these racist, reactionary, fascist and vicious forces, inside and outside of prison walls, recognized Comrade Yogi as a living, historical SYMBOL OD RESISTANCE, and a “threat” to this same capitalist system that breeds crime, poverty, racism, class and racial divisions, mass incarceration of the poor especially people of color who are disproportionately represented in this “NEW JIM CROW SYSTEM,” borrowing Michelle Alexander’s phrase from her book, a genocidal, murderous, plantation slavery system under capitalism, sanctioned by the 13th Amendment, U.S. Constitution, that must be abolished. YOGI was a “threat” to this criminal system, for he feared not to stand up and fight against the fascist state despite these brutal conditions, as being “BURIED ALIVE,” YOGI’s common expression in his many letters to others. His political revolutionary transformation and development, from a misguided, confused youth who was sent to prison at his early age, to his status as a “giant” of our prison movement, under the tutor of COMRADE GEORGE JACKSON, and the BLACK PANTHER PARTY, demonstrating a lifetime commitment to our resistance struggles, no matter the odds behind these racist, brutal, fascist walls in this steel –enclosed concrete tombs and concentration camps for the poor.
These state-actor criminals, and other accomplices in crime, that murdered Comrade Yogi are fools for they didn’t kill him, for Yogi lives on in our hearts, for they will never, ever, be able to kill our revolutionary ideas, and our aspirations to free ourselves, and the rest of humanity, from these chains of bondage and slavery that is this WAGE-THEFT socioeconomic system under bourgeoisie capitalism, a paradise for the rich, and a living hell for the poor, the workers who must sell their labor power to the slave-masters who not only trample on our social and humanity dignity, but are the same capitalist barbarians who are destroying the environment, our ecological systems, wildlife, and MOTHER EARTH for private, corporate profit. ANOTHER FOOT SOLDIER HAS ALREADY STEPPED UP TO FILL THE VOID LEFT BY THE TRAGIC LOSS OF OUR COMRADE BROTHER HUGO “YOGI BEAR” PINELL. I AM HONORED TO BE FEATURED IN THE MOST RECENT POW, POLITICAL PRISONER POSTER PUT OUT BY THE JERICHO MOVEMENT, NEXT TO COMRADE YOGI.
TO ALL PROGRESSIVE, SOCIAL REVOLUTIONARY FORCES IN THE UNITED STATES AND INTERNATIONALLY, I SAY TO YOU, DO NOT ALLOW THIS LOSS, LIFE, TO GO IN VAIN, WE MUST RE-DOUBLE OUR EFFORTS AT MASS MOBILIZATION, OF THE OPPRESSED, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE PRISON WALLS, AND WORK DILIGENTLY TO INFUSE OUR MOVEMENTS WITH REVOLUTIONARY ENERGY AND DETERMINISM, TO HOLD EACH OTHER BY OUR HANDS, AND OUR HEARTS, AND LINK ALL OF OUR INTER-COMMUNAL STRUGGLES IN OUR OPPRESSED BARRIOS, FAVELAS, GHETTOS, COMMUNITIES, IN PRISONS, IN OUR UNIVERSITIES, AND AROUND THE WORLD, FOR OUR STRUGGLE IS YOUR STRUGGLE.
LET US NOT FORGET THAT THE VICIOUS, CRIMINAL, FASCIST MURDER OF COMRADE YOGI IS THE SAME CAPITALIST PRISON DESIGN OF FASCIST, RACIST VIOLENCE AGAINST THE POOR, AS SOCIAL CONTROL MECHANISMS TO ELIMINATE OUR FOOT SOLDIERS AND TO DESTROY OUR “PRISON MOVEMENT” AND SUPPRESS OUR SOCIAL JUSTICE REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENTS, IN THE BELLY OF THE NERVE CENTER OF FASCIST IMPERIALISM. WE ARE THE REVOLUTIONARY VANGUARD AND WE MUST ACT LIKE ONE.
THIS BLACK AUGUST, WE SALUTE AND HONOR AND MEMORIALIZE ALL OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS, WHO PAID THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE WITH THEIR BLOOD, , LIKE MALCOLM X, JONATHAN, GEORGE JACKSON, THE ATTICA BROTHERS, RUBEN SALAZAR, DIAZ, WARD, HUEY NEWTON, MARILYN BUCK, SACCO AND VENZETTI, HUGO “YOGI BEAR” PINELL, AND MANY, MANY MORE SERVANTS OF THE PEOPLE. WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU! SEIZE THE TIME! EADTH OF U.S. FASCISM! ABAOLISH ALL PRISONS! BUILD THE UNITED FRONT AGAINST FASCISM! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
HUGO “YOGI BEAR” PINELL, PRESENTE!!!

THE CHICANO NATION: AN INTERNAL COLONY FORGES ITS INDIGENOUS IDENTITY AND RESISTS THE LEGACY OF EURO-AMERIKKKAN COLONIALISM AND IMPERIALISM IN THE AMERICAS
(A supplement to the 2010 certaindays.org calendar on Indigenous Resistance)
The 1519 European colonial conquest and annihilation of Mexico's Aztec tribe resulted in a forced European culture, religion and the assimilation of the natives as "Spanish-speaking indians." The Aztecs had resisted the invasion and continued to struggle against the tyranny of the Spanish invader, who destroyed Aztec civilization, stole its riches and erected institutions in Spain's own image. To this day, there are still many indigenous, autonomous communities in Southern and Central Mexico that survived the pillage by Spain. These tribes have retained their heritage and native language NAHUATL, among other indian dialects native to the region. Indigenous leaders have always sparked rebellions against Spanish rule. One such revolt led to Mexico's independence from Spain in September 16, 1821. Mestizo, or "mixed blood," warriors have been catalysts of guerrilla wars of resistance to reclaim their stolen lands, and demand respect for their culture and for basic human rights. Warriors such as Cuahutemoc, Emiliano Zapata and Benito Juarez led armed struggles to resist the invasion, for agrarian land reform, for cultural rights and for self-determination of Mexico's indigenous peoples in the 19th century.
Chicanos, Mexicanos, or Mexican Americans, are direct descendants of the indigenous Aztec blood lineage. The Aztces had its genesis in the north, in what is now Southwest United States, their legendary birthplace named "AZTLAN." Aztecs had a spiritual divine vision ordained by a prophecy to journey South until they saw an Eagle perched on a cactus, devouring a serpeant. At such sighting, they were to build their civilization. The vision appeared to them in a small islet in the middle of a huge lake where Mexico City sits today. The Aztecs drained the body of water and began to construct their nation-state millions of years ago. The magnificent Aztec pyramids still stand today, incomparable to any other archaeological site in North America, as a testament to the mighty Aztec empire. That Aztec vision represents the symbol of what is the Mexican flag of today.
In the history of indigenous civilizations, the Aztecs made enormous contributions to the sciences. Many unearthed codicies, stone monuments and glyphs, such as the Sun Calendar, have been preserved. These glyphs predicted the apocalyptic doom of the Aztces, but their prophetic rise in the coming Fifth Sun, or El Quinto Sol, yet to arrive. Hundreds of Aztec sites await discovery, such as the artifacts discovered in 1968 dating back to 800 B.C. in El Pantano in Central Mexico. These discoveries refute the negative myths and lies perpetuated by the apologists of Euro¬Amerikkkan colonialism that the Aztecs were "barbarians." The lie that Columbus "discovered America" and the falsification of history were created solely to serve the colonial powers and to justify these crimes against humanity, as FRANTZ FANON eloquently described it in his book THE WRETCHED OF THE EARTH.
Following in the murderous footsteps of European colonialism, in the early 1800's a mass exodus of white colonial settlers departed Jamestown, Virginia, Amerikkka's first colony, and moved South. It was sponsored by the U.S. government's colonial expansionism, rooted in its racist ideological doctrines of race superiority, Manifest Destiny and Christian Doctrine of "just war," as later institutionalized in U.S. Supreme Court decisions such as the infamous Dred Scott case, declaring that people of color were less than human and had no rights white society was bound to respect. The colonists invaded the Mexican State of Coahuila-Tejas, sovereign territory of Mexico. Mexico had outlawed slavery during this time period. The settlers were fierce advocates of the institution of slavery. They hungered for more land to impose their colonial rule against all peoples of color, as they had done to the Powhatan Indians in Jamestown. The settler's revolt led to the division of Coahuila-Tejas into the "Republic of Texas" in 1836. The bloody battles at the Alamo and San Jacinto record that painful history for La Raza.
The U.S. government's war on indigenous peoples of the Americas, and against the "Spanish-speaking indians," encompassed the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848, which resulted in numerous massacres, lynchings and land theft of over 50% of Mexico's national territory, ending with the illegal Gadsen Treaty Purchase of 1854. The colonial military annexation of the Mexican homeland set the international boundry between said countries at the Rio Grande River. Despite the existence of international treaties, such as the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the war, it was but another invalid and treacherous treaty forced on the Mexican people under military coercion, at the point of a gun and the threat of further invasion of the entire Mexican territory by the U.S. war machine. These treaties violate all international human rights laws and customs and constitute genocide and crimes against humanity that have gone unpunished. Such has been the tradition of the U.S. government, territorially comprised of a nation of imprisoned internal colonies, in all directions, including the Black internal colony in the South. Colonial racism was institutionalized in the occupied territories.
In contemporary times, Chicano/a activists embraced a distinctly revolutionary nationalism and indigenous identity as native peoples of the Americas. Such identity was popularized by leaders of the militant Chicano Movement such as Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales of The Crusade For Justice in Denver, Colorado. in his epic poem "I AM JOAQUIN." And in the rallying call for Chicano socialist revolution articulated in the "SPIRITUAL PLAN OF AZTLAN," a founding document of the 1968 Chicano Youth Liberation Conference in Denver. The Aztlan Plan called for the overthrow of the European-Yankee foreign invaders, the embracing of Chicano Indigenous Identity as "Mestizos," for self-determination and for an independent Mestizo Nation in the occupied territories of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and Wyoming. Since the occupation many Chicano Mexicano resistance fighters and clandestine groups have emerged to wage guerrilla war against the U.S. government, the likes of Joaquin Murieta, Tiburcio Vasquez, Juan Cortina, Gregorio Cortez, Las Gorras Blancas, and the 1915 armed uprising in San Diego, Texas, that produced the "PLAN OF SAN DIEGO" calling for self-determination and independence of the occupied territories. The San Diego Plan called on Blacks in the South to join the armed struggle for their own national liberation from slavery and for the creation of their own New Republic of Africa in the South. It was violently repressed by the government. This celebration of Chicano revolutionary history and of its rich tradition of militancy continues today by groups such as the student MOVIMIENTO ESTUDIANTIL CHICANO DE AZTLAN (MECHA), Union del Barrio, Barrio Defense Committee, and the non-governmental organization the International Indian Treaty Council.
On January 1, 1994, shots fired in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, were heard all over the world, reminding us of the ongoing struggles of indigenous peoples in the Americas, in resisting the tyranny of oppressive governments. On that historic day, the ZAPATISTA ARMY OF NATIONAL LIBERATION, or EJERCITO ZAPATISTA DE LIBERACION NACIONAL, with Sub-Commandante Marcos at the helm, initiated an indigenous armed uprising, seized control of municipal governments and declared "free, liberated zones" in Chiapas, in defense of indigenous rights to land, to freedom, for elemental human rights, being trampled upon by the Mexican government. The uprising proclaimed revolutionary solidarity with all other oppressed Red Nations, and other peoples subjugated by colonialism and imperialism around the world. The EJERCITO ZAPATISTA was comprised mainly of indigenous tribes. They were an inspiration to all freedom and justice-loving peoples of the world, partcularly Youth, much like the Cuban Revolution had been.
It is this indigenous revolutionary solidarity manifested by the ZAPATISTAS that must be forged in alliances with the many oppressed peoples of the world, indigenous and otherwise, oppressed by tyrannical governments, not only in the Americas but around the world as well. The movement for indigenous rights must be inseparably linked with the movement to free all political prisoners, pows, such as Leonard Peltier, Oscar Lopez Rivera, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Sundiata Acoli, Russell "Maroon" Shoats, Jalil Muntaqim, Jaan Laaman, David Gilbert, Herman Bell Robert Seth Hayes, Marilyn Buck, and many others, currently imprisoned in the U.S. as a result of opposition to the crimes of U.S. colonialism and imperialism, freedom fighters that come from diverse anti-imperialist movements. This movement must incorporate all forms of struggle/ in the streets, in the classrooms, in prison, and united front actions must take place that will awaken the conscience of the world, as it relates to the movement to free all U.S. political prisoners.
Our cases must be brought before World Human Rights Organizations, U.S. Congressional Committees, including pushing for the re-opening of COINTELPRO hearings in the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, a special petition to the new Obama administration, and the forging of alliances with all other progressive countries and movements from around the world, commensurate with the power of the people that freed Nelson Mandela. These actions for 2010, launched by the Native Youth Movement in Mexico in February 2009. must culminate with events on December 10th, International Human Rights Day, and protests at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in support of Six Nations, First Nations and Mohawk Indian's rights to sovereignty, and to protest the Canadian and U.S. government's refusal to support the United Nations Declaration on The Rights Of Indigenous Peoples! RED NATIONS, UNITE! PATRIA 0 MUERTE! DEATH TO COLONIALISM, IMPERIALISM! LA LUCHA CONTINUA! FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS, POWS! VENCEREMOS!
Unión del Barrio:
It needs not be repeated, but I really appreciate all the support and solidarity that you and the rest of our Raza in Califas have given me. To support me, is to support the struggle against insanity and imperialism.
At the inception of this case, I gave serious thought about rejecting the unlawful jurisdiction of these repressive U.S. courts and not to put up any "defense" as our compañeros and compañeras have done in many other political cases - Puerto Rican prisoners of war, the Ohio 7, etc. But that would deny me the right to establish my innocence, to expose the viciousness of the terror of the police to which I have been subjected to - the police violence and frame-ups, the fascism of the imperialist police state. So, my case is about exposing the police terror that oppresses and murders our gente en Los Barrios de Territorios Ocupados!
According to the biased, pro-prosecution, report of the so-called "psychologists", I am "anti-social". First of all, the psycologists' tests were not only CULTURALLY biased, but POLITICALLY biased as well. So that explains why I am "anti-social" in their TWISTED, WARPPED way of assessing people who do not conform to the social-racial injustices against our Raza. Remember, at one time "Nelson Mandela" was a "terrorist" and "criminal" in their eyes. But the will and the POWER OF THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD changed all that. Now he is president of South Africa.
When our Raza defends itself against 500 years of COLONIAL TERROR, of the violent gringo settlers who took our TIERRA, committed GENOCIDE against our Raza, established their gringo court system to "legalize" the CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY which they have committed against our gente, we are labeled "anti-social" or "criminal". And when we start embracing REVOLUTIONARY CONSCIOUSNESS, when we look our IMPERIALIST, FASCIST OPPRESSORS in the eye, and FEAR THEM NOT, when we start advocating our rights to SELF-DETERMINATION, our right to NATIONAL LIBERATION, we are called "violent". As Brother Malcolm X once said: I am non-violent. I am only violent against those who are violent against me. The police water hoses, the vicious dogs that attack our people are violent...."
The fact is that the POLICE STATE has always used violence to smash our legitimate, INTERNATIONAL RIGHT, to defend ourselves against the racist, tyrannical gringo genocide against our Raza. No one has ever paid for the racist murders of our carnales, RICHARD FALCON (Nuevo Mexico) or RUBEN SALAZAR (Los Angeles). Murder has no statutes of limitations. The police have to pay for these crimes.
We must INTERNATIONALIZE our movement; we must strongly condemn the colonial military annexation of part our PATRIA - AZTLAN - before the world, demand reparations, and the unconditional release of all Raza political prisoners and prisoners of war. We have two sets of verdicts and finding on these questions by legitimate people's tribunals (held in New York City and San Francisco) - my case was included in both special international tribunals. From Havana, Fidel Castro recently condemned the military annexation of the southwest U.S. and the violence against our Raza. We must appeal to all progressive, revolutionary freedom loving nations of the world to support us in asserting our right to self-determination.
We must also seek the support of our African brothers and sisters. We are fighting against a common enemy of HUMANKIND - el imperialismo yankee que nos a robado la tierra, la dignidad, y una vida sana. ¡MUERTE AL IMPERIALISMO! FREE AZTLAN!
Since my arrest in July of 1996, I have been moved from one jail to another. The reason they moved me back to this county jail was because of my organizational activities in Odessa [county jail]. In the last six months I have been shuffled around from county jail to county jail because I build CONSCIOUSNESS amongst our oppressed carnales and open their eyes to the basis of our SOCIAL OPPRESSION and ECONOMIC EXPLOITATION (el capitalismo e imperialismo).
The Chicano Mexicano Prison Project of Unión del Barrio must reach our carnales, grab them by their soul and transform them into AZTLAN WARRIORS who will form a column of REVOLUTIONARY CADRE within the belly of this beast and join the ranks of the ejercito popular that will come about with the dawning of UN NUEVO AMANECER! We must reach into the darkest, repressive corners of the KKKoncentration KKKamp solitary cells and shine the light of revolutionary consciousness to our carnales and carnalas que se encuentran en la torcida como victimas de la injusticia.
They return my property today (after moving me to Alpine, TX Jail)., but they still have me in isolation. It does not matter THEY CANNOT BREAK NOR JAIL THE SPIRIT! You all out there are my LIFELINE. The perros must know that I have support on the outside, especially now that I will continue to write revolutionary manifestos and advocate for a CHICANO MEXICANO REVOLUTION!
BOLIVAR, MURIETTA, ZAPATA, SANDINO, FONSECA, CHE, CAMILO, MARCOS, RAMONA . . . ¡PATRIA O MUERTE! ¡VENCEREMOS!
We have nothing to lose but our CHAINS!
¡Hasta La Victoria, Siempre!

If you believe that there exists true Justice in this country for Chicanos Mexicanos, this pamphlet is not intended for your eyes. It is aimed at those willing to shake off the yoke of mental conditioning and recognize that inherent injustices of the current system; who consider themselves oppressed, treated as second-class citizens, and victims of the brutal legacy of white power rule. It is for those who have experienced the pain, the humiliation, the suffering, and who understand the necessity of struggle to change their condition, for a fair redistribution of wealth, justice and power. The present hypocritical and unjust system which oppresses us cannot continue.
This writing is for the eyes and hearts of the poor, the voiceless, the dispossessed, the imprisoned — the real victims. I am not a historian, scientist, nor writer. I have no formal education, nor degree. My education is self-taught. My thoughts come from the heart, from a prophecy to be fulfilled. My recent trial in Odessa, Texas, June 2-9, 1997, on two counts of aggravated assault on a sheriff and a city police officer must be placed in its proper perspective. The historical foundation, the police conspiracy and the system’s web of lies and contradictions must be exposed.
This pamphlet is but the start of a series of writings to be consolidated into a future book. It is my sincerest wish that my testimonial experiences and confrontations with the system will serve to awaken and inspire Raza, not only in Alpine, Texas, where I lived and was arrested, but throughout the Southwest, to stand up, to assert their humanity, and to struggle against the gross injustices occurring daily to Raza, from the police house to the courthouse, to the White House.
Some of us have no “choices”. We are born into a life of poverty and oppression unable to escape the cycle because of many social factors. Conditions of life are even worse in rural areas such as in West Texas.
Common in oppressed barrios throughout the Southwest, in my native hometown of Alpine, are racist, corrupt and brutal police who continue to rule with an iron fist. From a notorious murderous, anti-Mexicano Sheriff who ruled Alpine with terror for more than 30 consecutive years to a racist judicial system to hate groups who committed unpunished crimes against Raza to an economy controlled by the gringo elite to a community which today still suffers the vestiges of a segregated society — this is the order of things in Alpine today. It is humiliating. It is painful. It is unjust. It is criminal. Those are daily realities for Mexicanos in Alpine, who ironically constitute approximately 50 percent of the county’s population.
Despite overwhelming numbers, Mexicanos have no voice and are excluded in the management decisions of daily government, civic and economic affairs, yet their sweat, blood and labor build the physical buildings that house the institutions now oppressing them. In the truest sense of the term, they are victims of taxation without representation. Economic development monies are always destined for dregs north of the Southern Pacific railroad tracks, but never to the south where Raza is concentrated, but forced to remain silent to outright injustices otherwise they will find themselves without a job in the gringo controlled economy.
The stark differences can be seen in the quality of community life and development, the public parks, public streets and in the social services that only trickle down to the barrio as miserable crumbs after the fat cats, the gringo power structure, has eaten up all of the tax revenues of the social and economic development pie to better the lives of their own. The Mexicano populace, in particular youth, are caught up in the never-ending cycle of white economic power servitude, dire poverty, institutionalized racism, violence, crime, oppression and death. From the womb to the tomb of its segregated cemeteries, Raza pass away not knowing true freedom and justice. “Hispanic” vendido politicians are content with only crumbs, and defend the status quo. Mexicano traditional institutions such as the Catholic Church ignore these injustices and contradictions.
There is no genuine grass-roots community-based organizations promoting justice or the betterment of poor Raza. The time has arrived to come to terms with these realities. Despite “civil rights” laws, we are the most discriminated against, exploited, marginalized and oppressed sector of United States society. The media daily reports another police murder, or brutality; another Mexicano maimed or killed by La Migra or the U.S. military on the border; another anti-Mexicano government law or policy; another city curfew to harass our youth and on and on.
Historical, sociological myths that have served to degrade, to condition us, to make us feel inferior before the gringo, must be challenged. Those myths have served the interests or our oppressors, “Lazy,” “Meskin,” “gardeners,” “maids,” “wetbacks,” “gangbangers,” “treacherous” and “criminals” are but a few stereotypes. It is only when our rich culture, heritage customs and traditions serve the commercial interests of the mighty white American dollar that it is acceptable to our oppressors.
Universal consciousness will help us to liberate ourselves, from such sociological, psychological slavery and genocide. We must control the politics of our barrio. Our traditional institutions must promote human rights and justice for our Raza and be accountable to our people and not to the status quo. We must enrich and empower our souls and our families with true awareness and knowledge. Knowledge is power and power is knowledge. The racist educational systems must be replaced with our own cultured institutions for a higher learning. It is only through such an empowerment that we can become truly independent, become self-sufficient, achieve true happiness and social justice for our people.
We are at a crossroads in history. We either choose to accept our present misery, or we chart a new path of unity, reconciliation, healing, justice, liberation, and self-determination. Power has never yielded to anything without a demand. The seasons — the moon, the sun, the skies are all signaling the fulfillment of our prophecy. Let future generations look at our generation through the eyes of pride, respect and glory, and not through the eyes of shame and cowardice.
We owe it to our elders, our daughters and sons. We must create a united voice, a united political movement, a barrio force to be reckoned with. Let our oppressors tremble in fear at the thought of waking up tomorrow without their class privileges of white ruling power and feeling the sting of our rage and retribution in their behinds and heels. Our oppressor needs to be freed from his greed, arrogance and sickness, His sickness has condemned poor people to a life of slavery, oppression and death not only within the internal colonies of the United States, but throughout the world. Their imperialism is the enemy of the human species. It must be overthrown. Raza, we are fulfilling a prophecy!
Let us learn from our past historical movements — Crystal City, Texas, Brown Berets and other formations for political self-determination that spread like prairie fires throughout our barrios in the occupied territories of our homeland, Aztlán, from Tejas to Califas, from Denver to Chiapas. History will repeat itself. But this time we will master “history” and not allow our oppressor to make it “his story” of falsehoods and trickery to justify their genocide war against our Raza. Ethics, morals and righteousness are on our side. Our nationalism will unify us - our indigenous blood, our Mexicanidad, our Chicanismo, our carnalismo, our spriitualism, our Zapatismo.
Let us reignite in the hearts of our barrio warriors, our soldiers, the burning flames of Raza pride, courage, spiritual rebirth and liberation; of our righteous duty to rebel against tyranny; to make revolution. We are becoming a majority in the occupied territories. The recent passing of a bright flame in the night sky is the signal that the prophecy written in the codices of our ancestors in Tenotchitlan will be fulfilled in the 21st century... we will rise again!
If my message, my testimony, will have served to reach and touch even one lost soul, I will have considered my mission accomplished.
Although totally innocent of the false charges, I was unjustly sentenced to prison for 50 years for defending myself against a police conspiracy and for resisting armed attacks by a racist, corrupt, and arrogant policy army who initially set out to outlaw me from Alpine or to kill me.
They won a battle, but will not win the war. I will rise again!
White police critic Fred Vogt recently wrote a letter published in the local newspaper complaining about the Alpine police department: “Will people be thrown in Jail falsely? Searched without a warrant? Harassed?” (Alpine Avalanche, May 1, 1997)
It’s been happening to Mexicanos in Alpine for years, Mr. Vogt. Open your eyes and ears and look to the South, across the railroad tracks that have always divided and excluded Mexicanos in Alpine. Mexicanos do exist and live to the South of your narrow tunnel vision, your white privileged world. It is not human, not wise to live in a glass house, in a glass world.
A special heart-felt thanks to all the linda Raza that supported me during my trial, my family, my friends, especially our youth, our future.
From the ashes of the birth cradle of Tenotchitlan, we will fulfill our prophecy. We will rise again!
VIVA LA RAZA!
TIERRA Y LIBERTAD!
EL BARRIO UNIDO, JAMAS SERA VENCIDO!

In The Spirit of Internationalism:
With much enthusiasm and in the spirit of true internationalism, I welcome the idea for a unity meeting to be held in El Paso, Tejas, in December 2001 to create the foundation for a Mexicano United Front Delegation that would attend the international conference scheduled for March 2002 in Havana, Cuba, to address the questions of Chicano Mexican Self Determination, political prisoners, and international human rights as related to the occupied territories. This is a great opportunity to internationalize our movement and to network with other world human rights organizations. I endorse whole heatedly such a unity and will be asking all Raza activists to support the same.
